IRS urges taxpayers to lock down their accounts with an IP PIN

IRS · Federal (IRS)

The IRS is encouraging taxpayers to secure their IRS online accounts and sign up for an Identity Protection PIN, a six-digit code that stops anyone else from filing a return with your Social Security number.

What it means for you: Getting an IP PIN before filing season is free and takes a few minutes in your IRS online account. It is one of the best protections against tax identity theft and delayed refunds.
