Tax preparers must renew their PTINs for 2027

IRS · Federal (IRS)

The IRS reminded paid tax preparers to renew their Preparer Tax Identification Numbers before the 2027 filing season. Anyone paid to prepare federal returns must have a current PTIN.

What it means for you: Before you hand your return to anyone, make sure they are a credentialed preparer with a current PTIN and sign the return as the paid preparer. Avoid preparers who won't sign or who base their fee on your refund size.
