NYC’s new surcharge on non-primary homes: check if you’re exempt

NYC Finance · New York City

New York City now applies a surcharge to certain homes that are not the owner's main residence: one- to three-family homes valued above $5 million and condo or co-op units valued at $1 million or more. NYC Finance has an online eligibility guide for owners.

What it means for you: Most Queens homeowners living in their own home are not affected. If you own a high-value NYC property but live elsewhere, use the city's eligibility tool and respond to any notice before its deadline.
