Good to know

How New York’s tracker works

  • Status changes when your return moves to a new processing stage, not at a set time each day.
  • Simple, e-filed returns usually process fastest. Returns claiming certain credits can get extra review.
  • After four wrong entries, the tool locks you out for 24 hours.
  • The tool does not track amended returns. For those, call 518-457-5149.
  • If a letter asks for documents, processing stops until you answer it.

Questions

Frequently asked

Why hasn’t my New York refund status changed?

New York updates status only when a return moves to a new stage. A long wait usually means processing is still going on, unless you received a letter asking for more information.

Can I check my NY refund by phone?

Yes, at 518-457-5149, but phone representatives see the same information as the online tool.

Does this cover my NYC refund?

Yes. New York City income tax is filed on your New York State return, so the state tracker covers it.
